First experience was a good one – Loved the guacamole dish and grilled chicken sandwich. The view is gorgeous and the staff very friendly. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting a casual, laid back dining experience.

Beautiful view – We had a mixture of good and bad in that restaurant, so I give it 3 stars. It had a beautiful view, but we had to wait for a long time to get a table. The waitress was not friendly at all and made us feel bad for even coming in and bothering her. We ordered guacamole as our appetizer, well, turns out their guacamole is chunks of avocado sprinkled with other chopped vegetables, and 2 slices of lime on the side. This came with tortilla chips, which did not make sense to me, because it was impossible to pick up a chunk of avocado with a tortilla chip. It was not seasoned, so tasted somewhat bland, even though avocado was fresh.

I ordered trout, but they did not have it, so I settled for fried catfish, and my husband ordered Tilapia. His dish was good, even though the presentation could be better. My fried catfish came in a black plastic bowl witha huge pile of fries and cole slaw. I love coleslaw, and cabbage in general, so I started eating my meal by taking a fork full of cole slaw, my eyes watered and I fought a temptation to spit it back. That was the worst cabbage dish I've ever eaten, it was very stinky, not like sour kraut, but more like rotten stinky. This ruined the whole dining experience for me. I did not like my mushy fries, catfish was fine. My husband's dish was good, a little watery, but so much better compared to mine! Fish was well-done, it tasted well, but the presentation was slopy. I walked out with a thought "Never again!", but after analyzing the whole experience I would still recommend this place, just be careful what you order!

Also, people who say that Boathouse serves upscale food, probably don't know what upscale food is!

Good Upscale Food – I have eaten at the Boathouse for years and always have had good service and great food!!! They are an upscale restaurant. If you are used to eating at Mickie D's, you may not want to try them! I love the roasted chicken sandwich with fried okra! My husband loves the fried catfish!! Yum!!!

Not much to offer – The wait was terribly long....once we were seated, no one came for over 5 minutes. My husband and I got up and left!!!! While waiting with no service, we looked over the menu and decided O'Charley's even offers a better menu with much better prices. Save your money and go somewhere else!!!!!!!

wonderfull – with great service, delicious food and the most amazing view, The Boathouse stands alone as one of the pillars of the Chattanooga experiance. The Voodo chicken is so original and the shrimp are giagantic!! (Well worth the price). If you like rotisserie, there is simply no better place in town to find it. And talk about oysters!! The menu is reasonably priced and the SHORT wait times are well worth it. My advice is to go and get an outside table during sunset....WOW!! The only downside in my opinion was a rude customer who was giving the waitress such a hard time and who, by the look on the waitress's face, must have ripped her off on the tip to boot (18% for good service people). Oh well, can't please everyone. The Boathouse staff, however, comes mighty close to doing just that.

Thank you Boathouse!!!

Not worth It !! – We had to wait forever to get a table. The food was not good and overall it just wasn't worth the gas it took to drive there.

Terrible management; Folks, it rolls downhill! – op by for dinner generally expecting service / food quality to be mediocre at best. It's the kind of place I visit when I'm in a good mood, have low expectations, and primarily want to sit and enjoy a beautiful view in the company of loved ones or friends (food / service is generally secondary). Having worked in the food service industry I understand the difficulty of customer satisfaction and so generally I do not complain (in other words, my expectations aren't that high people!). In general, this works well (I pay for a drink, an appetizer and just kick back and watch the river and ignore the food quality / service). But after a recent well publicized situation I will not return to this establishment as the attitude apparently does "roll downhill". Recently a family (with small children) attempted to have dinner at the restaurant. They brought fast food for the youngest b/c the Boathouse does not have a children's menu (mind you though, this is not St. Johns, it's not even comparable to O'Charley's and it's certainly does not give the vibe of "adults only" like, say, a sport's bar). They told the family to discard of the food or leave. I understand the eatery's policy against outside food and also can see the parent's side (wanting to provide their child more "child friendly" food). What I cannot understand is the owner's attitude toward the would-be customer. When the customer complained the owner's solution was cheap shot parenting advice and crass insults (yes, I read them myself, and even if the owner didn't agree with the customer an owner / manager should be above insulting a customer with a difference of opinion). Not having children, I could care less what the established policy on brining in Happy Meals is, but I simply cannot overlook the way in which it was handled. Further, this is not the first time THIS manager has been rude to patrons who were personal friends of mine. They apparently have a "no-complaint" policy as well. I have typically supported the restaurant through past situations (again, understanding some of the oddities of the business and with a low expectation), but the owner's philosophy is obvious and one that I personally cannot support. There are other restaurants with nice views, better food, and the higher price is certainly worth the service returned. Personally, I think I will begin to raise my expectations and dine in better quality establishments even if I have give up the view. If you are visiting our city, please don't waste your time or money here. Check out some of Chattanooga's BETTER, more memorable locally owned restaurants.

... – The view is awesome. And the food is just ok. The set up is great but the menu needs improvement.

Seafood stew to avoid – Tried this place once before and felt it was just so-so. Because we love Canyon Grill, a sister restaurant, I wanted to give this place a second try. My catfish Po-Boy was tasty but the portion of fish was incredibly small. My husband's seafood stew was lacking in every aspect. It was loaded with avacado which I do not even recall seeing as a part of the order. The 2 shrimp were still in their shells. Certainly not enough to keep a baby going and it cost $15! My husband also said it was tough and ate nothing. The saving grace was the waiter realized something was wrong and offered to have the item taken off of our bill which he did without any problem or issue. I have to give them high marks for that! But 2 times we have eaten there and 2 times we have been disappointed. We will not be going back.

Poor service, Tasteless food, Great view – Our orders were "House Specialties". The food was tasteless and warm at best. Even the sides were warm and without flavor.

The service was slow for the number of customers present. I had heard a lot about the Boathouse but was very disappointed. There has to be more than a view to keep customers.

If one of our dishes had been good I would have thought it to be OK for another try. The tea was good. We left and stopped at a fast food for some fast nourishment.

I would not recommend this restaurant.
