A Refreshing Change of Pace. When my friend mentioned going to a place called Acropolis, I couldn't imagine a Greek restaurant in Chatanooga. To my pleasant surprise, that is exactly what I experienced. I was pleased to see several Greek items on the menu in addition to some traditional American cuisine. I chose the Dolmadakias (Dolmades in my house). I was afraid I might be disappointed since I cut my teeth on those things, but I was pleasantly surprised. I healthy serving of six plump stuffed grape leaves arrived at the table, and they were every bit as good as my mother's. To add to the Greek experience, Betty, the owner, came to converse with her guests. She sat at an adjacent table and carried on as if she had known me and my friends for years. Soon her two granddaughters came and sat in her lap -- and they, too, warmed right up to the guests. Perhaps one can appreciate all of that more if he has grown up in a Greek community where everything is a family affair. Needless to say, I felt right at home.
Opah!. Thus far, I've tried three different dinners. I can't exactly remember their name, except...."Oh my! Oh my, that is just too good!" Pasta with fresh tomatoes and grilled chicken was to die for. The 'Greek Antipasto' was a great sampler of grape leaves, hummus, a stuffed manicotti shell and I forget the light and flaky filled pastries that go so well with the cut tomato, cucumber and feta cheese (I got the fried calamari to go with and it too was just so good). I took my parents and my children out to eat here my first visit, family of five (two kids 7 & 9), everyone one of us was just very impressed. To quote my youngest, 'this place must be classy...I love this place so much!" Why, A**? "There is so much food and my Strawberry Cake is killer!" Out of the mouths of babes! Every one of us tried a different dessert, Tiramisu (awesome), Strawberry Cake (wonderfully fresh and 'Killer'), Chocolate Lover's Cake (too much for me, but my 9yo LOVED IT!), dad had the Cherry ? Strudel Cake with ice cream (he didn't share as the rest of us did!) and finally mom had the best of the best, the Baklava Cheesecake (the best of both worlds! You gotta try this if you like Baklava & Cheesecake!). Watch the entrance, one-way, but definitely worth the visit!
Great Family Place. We truly enjoy eating at The Acropolis. Try the "Oompa" flaming cheese or the greek pastry appetizers. The fish dishes are fresh and flavorful, but my son especially loves the pork chops. Don't leave without having a slice of Chocolate Lover's Cake. It's our family's favorite. The servers and owners are very friendly too.
The best overall in Chattanooga!. This, to me, is the best restaurant in Chattanooga. My absolute favorite place to eat. The main courses are delicious, and the service is wonderful. They have delicious breads, salads, and soups too. I have never gotten anything that I didn't like from this place. Don't forget to save room for desert! Their deserts are wonderful! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!
Great Experience. I just moved to the area and had never heard of this restaurant before. I took a date there and the experience was wonderful. The staff was very polite and had great suggestions as to what to try. The chicken oscar (pan-fried chicken topped with asparagus, crab meat, and a feta cheese sauce) was excellent as was my date's caribbean mahi mahi. Make sure to save room for one of their awesome desserts. Can't wait to go back!
Dismal. Brown wilted iceberg lettuce and canned vegetables make for a poor dining experience. The "greek salads" are dismal excuses for a true greek style salad. The food overall is mediocre at best, mainly pre-processed etc. A very poor excuse for true Greek food. The dolmas are hard and rubbery as though they have been made up well in advance and then thawed and microwaved.
