Love this place.
I've missed good Chinese since leaving NYC and even there, really good Chinese is hard to come by. Love this place. Unlike the last review, I had take out last night and it was great. Only issue is that if you don't like celery, ask if it's in the dish first! I find it risky to eat beef (often tough), chicken (often questionable pieces) or seafood (not fresh) at chinese restaurants, but I have now tried all, including tofu, and would trust ordering anything I'm in the mood for off their menu. Folks who work there are so friendly and helpful, too. Highly recommend.

No so good for take out.
I guess if you never had Chinese food before this place is Great!
This is based on Take out.. Not Dine in.....
Sweet and sour chicken was soggy, after being in the container for 10 minutes. The vegetables at the bottom of the container turned turn the chicken orange and green. I threw away half of the container. I ordered pork fried rice, and got vegetable fried rice, that had a few peas, a few bits of egg, and had a burnt taste. The Egg roll was soggy and saturated with what tasted like old oil?
My personal theory about Chinese places. If they cant get the Egg rolls and Fried Rice right... Not very good.. I will continue the search for Chinese food.....

Wonderful food, service and atmosphere!.
Formosa is the first place I tasted chinese back in 198? when I was a teen. Since then it has always been a favorite of mine and no other chinese has ever tasted quite 'right'. My husband and I had our first date there, and it is a great place to go either as a family or a couple. Atmosphere is GREAT. Food is DELICIOUS. The owner is frequently there to ask how your food was and is very friendly to customers. I would recommend to anyone.

Best Chinese food in Southeast..
Always tastes great, friendly staff, and quick service. I've been eating there for fifteen years and keep going back for more. I love the small size and quiet atmosphere.

Not as good as other reviews led us to believe.
The staff was friendly, atmosphere clean, food... not so good. The fried rice was soggy and none of us liked the scallop dish at all. The chicken fried rice was goopy and had a funny texture. All in all, we wont be going back. The Ichiban next door to this place tho............YUMMY ! We just wish the Ichiban was open during the week for lunch.

Best Chinese in Chattanooga - Open over 25 yeas.
This the cleanest, best Chinese ever! It has been in business over 25 years at the same location. Every meal is cooked to order. No buffet here! Excellent wait staff and very good food.

A New Benchmark for Chinese.
Judging by the numerous plaques and certificates on the waiting area wall, The Formosa has built up a steady legion of local loyalty as well as visiting passers-by (case in point). The restaurant just looks different from so many stereotypical restaurants--we were pleased when our meal further convinced us that Formosa had been open for over 20 years for a reason. We were recommended to try to off-menu sea bass. Our courteous server also recommended the five-flavored shrimp since we were in seafood mode.
The sea bass was delicate and full of flavor and the shrimp was cooked just right and the sauce it came in was incredible. Even the "standard" dishes like the beef with broccoli taste a notch above any other Chinese restaurant we've tried. Delicious.

Classical Tastes with Modern Style..
The Formosa Restaurant, located in the Hixson area off Highway 153, has been astonishing the local palate for over 20 years. The Formosa offers high quality Chinese cuisine whose secrets lie in simple ingredients combined flavorfully. Try the Five Flavored Shrimp: fresh shrimp mixed with candied pecans, crisp broccoli, and one of Formosa's perfect house-recipe citrus sauces. Another unique favorite is the anachronistic Dragon-Horse Chicken, tender pieces of sliced chicken filets in a saucy mix of fresh vegetables, and crunchy slices of the traditional old-world Chinese "dragon bread". The service is high caliber---our server was very detail oriented, ranging from making my drink seem perpetually full all the way to being courteous and professional. The atmosphere is both classic and slightly modern. Feeling as if we had just discovered our own "secret" restaurant that we will visit every time we are in Chattanooga, we will always come back.
