In Short – Since it opened in 1992, the Tennessee Aquarium has revitalized the riverfront area of downtown Chattanooga, making it a major tourist destination. The six-story Imax theater sits directly across from the aquarium. The world's largest freshwater aquarium has exhibits with fish and wildlife from the Mississippi and Tennessee rivers, as well as the Yangtze, Amazon and Nile. The 3D theater offers educational films, mostly about waterlife, in six-channel IMAX sound.

unexpected surprise

I was in Chattanooga on business and was looking for something to do during my downtime. My client had recommended the aquarium. What a treat! There was so much to see and learn. Well worth the admission price! I watched the excitement that the young visitors showed and wished that my grandchildren were there to enjoy it too. Looks like I'll have to plan another trip with my family.

This is great place to take the kids...A wonder place for a nice date as well. There are a lot of animals to see and things to learn at this aquarium. The price is pretty reasonable but parking is a little bad
- Pros: Great exercise
- Cons: Can be crowded
Catchy title? No fishing allowed!

a quick get away from it all

I grew up in Chattanooga and there was never much to do. The city has spent a lot of time and money rebuilding the downtown area and it looks awesome. The aquarium makes for a good family outing, date, or just road trip for friends, and it is surrounded by restaurants of all types. Chattanooga's riverfront park is nearby and the exhibits are great. The aquarium is really crowded some times, and the price is slightly expensive. Look around for coupons, or grab a season pass, if you plan to be back more than once. To avoid the crowd, go in the late afternoon, or early evening
- Pros: out of the ordinary, great location, good restaurant
- Cons: expensive, crowded
