This place smells bad
by everyman
This place is filthy, smoke filled and is never clean. I have been there several times and it is always dirty. Why can Chattanooga not have a nice bar like Nashville or Atlanta?
- Pros: it ueually has a large crowd
- Cons: due to it's being only one of two open seven days a week.
Let me tell you something about this bar YOU DO NOT KNOW!

A group of friends and I decided to visit Tenessee to partake in a little whitewater rafting for the weekend. We decided to try out up the local night life at least one night of our trip so we followed the other reviews on this site to Allen Gold's. We arrive to a quaint little club in a great older, refurbished building in downtown Chattanooga. The bartender, Liz, and security guard, T for Trouble, made us feel very welcome admist the other 5 locals in the bar. Clearly this dance joint was just not hoppin on this particular Thursday night due the local university being out for the summer. Over the loud speakers played some outdate house music that one would only expect to be played towards the end of the night when everyone has had 4-10 drinks and will shake it to anything. My friend approached the DJ booth to ask for some "rap" to get the night started (mind you by "rap" we did not mean Mike Jones, Dr. Dre, or Chamillionare...what we meant was a little TI, Trina, Back that A$$ Up, Keri Hilson...). The DJ told my friend he didn't play "rap". I am sure that my friend then made some smartass comments as to why it was stupid how they didnt play rap which we later apologized for, but instead of letting it go there, the DJ proceeded to stop the music, and address the bar via the mic and speakers with something that went a little like this: "For the four people who are expecting us to play rap, I have been doing this for 25 years and this is our bar. We are not playing rap and if you dont like it, you can leave." HOLD UP... we asked for a little booty music in a gay bar...Our group of 4 equals to 25% of the entire crowd who is either playing pool (not dancing) or just sitting at the bar cruising...there is no need to act a fool and call your customers out for requesting a song...and no we are not tipping you to play good music...YOUR A DJ...THAT IS YOUR JOB. After about 5 more minuites of feeling stupid after being called out, some Barbara Striesand club mix, we left! As we left the DJ yells at us "GOOD RIDDENS"! Seriously? Good Riddens?
I just feel bad for the nice employees who made us feel welcome because if this is how you treat all people from out of town, then I hope you enjoy the next 25 years in that DJ booth....GOOD RIDDENS TO YOU!
Please to not let the way the DJ treated us stop you from going to this bar. It is a great bar, and you could probably meet some nice people on a good night. JUST DONT EXPECT ANYTHING GREAT FROM THE DJ!
- Pros: Great drinks, friendly staff.
- Cons: Rude DJ with old music.
What a GREAT night out!
